Mission Statement & Objectives

Mission Statement

The National Serology Reference Laboratory, Australia (NRL) is committed to helping curb the spread of blood borne and other infections by assuring and maintaining quality and confidence in laboratory results in Australia and internationally. Our objectives are achieved by providing independent, multi-faceted quality assurance programmes, acting as an adjudicator on problematic sample results, conducting targeted research, and leading training and education endeavours to secure laboratory best practice and quality.

Objectives

  • To ensure that no person should receive a false diagnostic result through poor serology.
  • To be sure that no infected blood is transfused due to a failure in the performance of serological tests.
  • To contribute to maintaining low false reactivity and thus to help minimise blood wastage.
  • To oversee the quality of viral load and viral sensitivity testing for therapeutic programs to ensure reliable and reproducible results.
  • To establish, implement and promote best practice in serological testing.
  • To make sure that serology is performed in an efficacious manner in order to conserve resources.
