Sue graduated from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in 1973 with a Diploma of Medical Technology and obtained her Masters in Applied Science from RMIT in 1998. She began her professional career at CSIRO in the Division of Animal Health, moving onto the Diagnostic Laboratories in Perth and the Centre for Immunology at St Vincent's in Sydney. In 1987, Sue's career took her to the Central Public Health Laboratories in London where she worked until 1989. Sue has been at the NRL since 1990, becoming Senior Scientist in 1995. As the NRL has expanded Sue has delegated most of her day to day scientific duties while maintaining overall responsibility for the activities of the PEMS and TRT teams at the Management level. In September 2000, Sue took 6 months leave of absence from the NRL to take up a short-term professional appointment with WHO Headquarters in Geneva. Following her return in April 2001, Sue has continued to act as a consultant on WHO projects. As Operations Manager, Sue is in charge of the NRL in the Director's absence. Sue has given numerous presentations, both nationally and internationally, and is often involved in NRL training workshops.
In her time away from the NRL, Sue enjoys fine wine, exercising, reading, cooking and films.
