Liza started in Science as a Laboratory Technician at the Victorian Infectious Diseases Reference Laboratory (VIDRL) while contemplating a career in Medicine. She concluded that Medicine might mean too many years of full-time study. So she opted instead to complete a Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) majoring in Clinical Biochemistry and Medical Microbiology from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) in 2001.

Following her graduation, Liza continued working at VIDRL as a Scientist, spending time in many departments within VIDRL absorbing all the knowledge that she could.

She started at the NRL in 2009, the same week as Melbourne's history-making heatwave, bringing new meaning to the phrase "baptism by fire". Liza is part of the post-market monitoring team and, at the completion of her training, will coordinate the NRL's NAT EQAS and QC programme.

When she's not at work, Liza likes to travel the world in the quest for the perfect pair of shoes.
