Annual Serology Workshop

The Annual Workshop on Serology has been an important event on NRL's calendar for nearly 23 years. By bringing together national and international scientific, manufacturing and regulatory groups, it provides a forum for the discussion and resolution of many important issues facing Australasian and other Serologists. The core theme is quality assurance in laboratories, and while the Workshop initially focused on HIV serology, it has since considered numerous issues concerning HCV and HTLV serology, Nucleic Acid Testing (NAT), other serology for other viruses (e.g. rubella and measles) and assays used for therapeutic decisions such as NAT and typing assays. Laboratory management and accreditation is another major issue. Topics are of value to serologists of both diagnostic and blood service laboratories.

The Workshop is designed to be interactive, and delegates are encouraged to submit abstracts, give presentations and participate actively in discussion sessions. International guest speakers are selected to provide information on serological issues of national and global significance. During the Workshop, ample time is allowed for interaction between delegates. We believe that this is an excellent opportunity for colleagues to discuss in detail
serology-related problems, quality assurance and regulation, advances and other issues affecting risk management in laboratories.

All Workshop delegates receive a copy of the abstracts, a delegate list, and a record of the discussions and the resolutions. Resolutions and summaries of discussions are presented in the last session of the Workshop.
